“For other males thinking of pursuing a career in early childhood – do it! Tamariki love the interactions and different perspectives a male kaiako can offer.”
My background is in management, and I was between work, when during COVID, I was asked to help in what is now my home centre, and I never left.

I have five children, so being able to fit study around their schedules is extremely helpful.
The support and communication from lecturers is fantastic. I had a phone call on the first day of Field Practice, with a follow-up email that afternoon, and in the week since, we communicated via email whenever I had a query.

“I was instantly drawn to NZTC’s flexible modes of learning, which from my experience is not seen in other tertiary institutions to the same extent, and I was aware New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum is held in high esteem around the world.”
I enjoy the multicultural aspect of life here. It is wonderful seeing different cultures working together and respecting one another.

My goal is to become fully qualified and run my own centre alongside my husband who also teaches in the sector. The positive work-life balance New Zealand offers is ideal for people like me who have big goals but are juggling child-rearing, studying and working.
