The Healthcare Informatics strand equips students with skills in healthcare data management, analytics, and system security, focusing on digital healthcare design and data safety. What will you learn?

TRIMESTER 1

Start with foundational learning in strategic information systems, data management, and research methods, essential for analysing and interpreting business data.

  • Strategic Information Systems Planning You will learn to critically evaluate current systems, identify opportunities, and develop tailored solutions for
    complex challenges in business settings.
  • Information Systems Analysis and Design You will learn to evaluate data models, apply usercentered design, and implement various SDLC methodologies.
  • Database Management Systems You will explore data warehousing and business
    intelligence by developing skills in database design, SQL querying, and data security, emphasisng ethical and cultural considerations, including Māori data ownership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Research Methods You will have the opportunity to learn about Kaupapa Māori research frameworks and ethical considerations for working with indigenous communities.

TRIMESTER 2

Develop expertise in data analytics and warehousing to drive informed business decisions through practical business strategy skills.

  • IT Project Management
    You will gain expertise in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management, learning to select and apply the right project management methodologies, such as Agile, Waterfall, and PRINCE2.
  • Digital Healthcare Design
    You will learn to create user-centric solutions for healthcare challenges. The curriculum covers a wide range of technologies, including EHRs, telemedicine, and
    mobile health apps, with a focus on improving patient care and organizational efficiency.
  • Health Analytics
    You will learn to ethically analyze diverse healthcare data to improve patient outcomes, optimize operations, and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Data Safety in Healthcare System
    You’ll learn to evaluate the risks to healthcare data security, including cyberattacks and breaches, and develop strategies to mitigate these threats.

TRIMESTER 3

Through a capstone project, you’ll tackle a real-world issue in business analytics, honing your skills in data interpretation and solution-oriented analytics for industry application.

Entry Requirements

International students must be at least 18 years old when commence the course.

ACADEMIC

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Graduate Diploma in informatics or health-related subject from a recognised institution, OR
  • Evidence of acquiring the relevant skills and knowledge through appropriate work or professional experience in healthcare data management, analysis or a related area.

ENGLISH

  • IELTS 6.5 (Academic) with no band lower than 6.0 or equivalences approved by NZQA.
