Welcome to Unitec Institute of Technology

Founded in 1976, Unitec Institute of Technology, situated in Auckland, New Zealand, is the city’s largest technological institute. Initially known as Carrington Technical Institute, it was renamed Carrington Polytechnic in 1987 and then Unitec Institute of Technology in 1994. While it sought university status in 1999, it remains a celebrated Institute of Technology and is part of the International Association of Universities.

Opportunities and Work Prospects

  • Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV): Graduates are eligible for a work visa for 1-3 years, depending on the level and duration of their study. This visa is a pathway to gain valuable international work experience and possibly permanent residency.
  • Part-Time Work Options: International students can work part-time (up to 20 hours a week) in New Zealand during study, with opportunities in various sectors. As well as up to 40 hours during the holiday season. You are paid on ‘hours’ and have a minimum wage of between $18.16 to $20.70 based on your age.

  • International students: They must provide evidence of English language proficiency through standardised tests such as PTE or IELTS.
